Financial Letter from the Superintendent
I want to continue to share with you additional information in regard to our District Restructuring Plan for the 2016-2017 school year.
In a previous letter, I provided for you a copy of the plan that was shared at the Board of Education meeting on January 12, 2016, and the follow up letter stating that the plan will save $900,000 from the Education Funds 2016-2017 budget. This plan dramatically improved the ability of the District to maintain its balanced budget.
The reductions this plan created will provide the means to fill important needs that better serve the students as the budget develops. As it stands today, we expect to incur District costs of 100 thousand dollars or less for the additional buses from the Transportation Fund. The District will get reimbursed for regular education transportation at 70% of total expenses. This will offset increases in transportation costs while we recognize a much bigger savings in other areas that do not have any means to offset their costs.
We would also like to emphasize that putting more students in the same grade level at one location helps provide for more consistent class sizes, and any staffing dollars that we do spend will have a greater impact on more students in the District.
We firmly believe these changes will improve and provide a strong academic foundation for our students moving forward. We will continue the accurate communication informing you of decisions and direction in the future.
Mr. James J. Greenwald, Ed.S.
